Preventing Flat Tires on Your E-Scooter: What Really Makes a Difference

Flat tires are among the most common issues with e-scooters. That’s not surprising: small tires carry relatively high weight, hit curbs directly, and are often ridden with too little air pressure in everyday use. The good news is that many flats can be reduced with a few simple habits.

1) Tire Pressure Is the Most Important Factor

Too little tire pressure increases the risk of pinch flats and damage to the tire and inner tube. At the same time, it reduces range and negatively affects handling. Riders who check their pressure regularly experience fewer flats and ride more efficiently.

A simple routine is enough:

  • Check tire pressure every 1–2 weeks (more often with heavy use).
  • Inspect more frequently after temperature changes (winter/spring).
  • Don’t rely on “feeling” — use a pressure gauge.

2) Road Surface and Curbs: Small Mistakes, Big Impact

Many flats happen because of hard edges:

  • Riding straight into curbs
  • Not spotting potholes in time
  • Hitting rails or edges at an angle

A better approach: reduce speed, approach edges at as close to a right angle as possible, slightly unweight the front wheel, and if necessary, step off instead of risking the tire.

3) Riding Style and Load

High load plus hard edges plus low tire pressure is the classic combination for a flat. If you often ride with a backpack or groceries, it’s worth paying closer attention to your tire pressure.

4) Service Determines Whether a Flat Is Annoying — or Just a Minor Issue

Even with good maintenance, not every flat can be avoided. What matters then is how quickly you’re mobile again. If repairs and spare parts are your responsibility, a minor issue can easily turn into several days of inconvenience.

With an all-inclusive subscription service, it’s simpler: report the problem, receive a solution, keep riding.

Tires are wear-and-tear parts. The difference is whether you want to handle the issue yourself every time — or have it smoothly managed as part of your service.
